Have You ___________?
.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:1,4

Many prophesied 2020 to be a year of perfect vision. As jumbled as the year has been, it has certainly caused many to readjust their focus. Many have found "perfect vision" simply by setting their affections on Christ, seeking His face, and following His commands. Yet for all that have looked to Him on their own, there have been many that He has sought out for the express purpose of revealing the glory of God in the earth.
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12 KJV
"And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing." John 9: 1-7 KJV
This was not the first blind man that Jesus healed. It was not the first miracle that His disciples had witnessed. It certainly wasn't the first time the Pharisees had sought to condemn Jesus for doing the works for which He had been sent. But it was the first instance of Jesus singling out the blind man without first being beckoned.
Jesus met the man at his point of need. The man needed a creative miracle, because he had been born blind. Adam was created from the dust of the earth, so how better to create the parts needed for this blind man to see; than to take the earth and moisten it water from the Source of living water, and apply it to the man's eyes.
Verse 25 lets us know that the blind man had no previous knowledge of Jesus. And verse 36 reveals how the blind man really came to know the Son of Man. And once he believed, he worshipped the Lord.
Within the content of the chapter, you read the questions posed by various people groups. The disciples began with, "who sinned, this man or his parents". They were referencing the Old Testament Law found in Exodus 34:7. Jesus replied that it was neither. He explained that the man was born blind to present the opportunity for God to be glorified.
The Pharisees had questions and accusations. The parents simply said, "let him speak for himself". The blind man (now healed) simply asked who the Son of Man was.
The blind man's obedience, (he went to the pool of Siloam & washed his eyes) was the catalyst for the completion of the miracle. And it was his worship (verse 38) that made him whole.
Beloved, Jesus will meet you at your point of need. He may do something that you may not expect. He may ask you to do something in order to complete the miracle. In all of this, He will work to reveal the glory of God. And it will be your worship and testimony that will reveal His glory to others. Sharing the Good News with others, is just that simple. Praise & glorify God for all that He has done for you.
I am believing to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, in this year of our Lord, 2021.

Recently I heard shopper A talking to her friend, shopper B. She was commenting on the rude behavior of a nearby shopper C. Shopper A said to Shopper B, "she 'bout made me lose my religion". In other words, shopper A was offended/angered by Shopper C's behavior and wanted to confront her about it.
Losing one's religion is a Southern expression that is basically the same as "being at wit's end"only it carries the idea of using an angry tone and/or profanity. In other words, a person that "loses their religion" will put aside their religious beliefs regarding Christian behavior, and will respond angrily to someone/something that offends them. Some people would call that, responding in a way that was "out of character". However, I think "losing one's religion" reveals their character, or rather, their lack of it.
"If you claim to be religious but do not control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless." James 1: 26 NLT
Webster's 1828 Dictionary defines religion as: "godliness or real piety in practice, consisting in the performance of all known duties to God and our fellow men, in obedience to divine command, or from love to God and his law".
"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father, means caring for orphans & widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you." James 1:27 NLT
Biblical religion is based one's relationship with God. Therefore, "losing one's religion" reveals the depth of one's relationship with God. In this life, we are going to be offended/angered by all sorts of things that people say & do. Our response, when offended/angered, can make a huge difference to all who are within earshot.
"A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare." Proverbs 15:1 NLT
Let us go into the new year, determined to let our lights shine for Jesus. Let's deepen our relationship with God and exercise our religion in service to our fellow man.

Many times we enter into the presence of the King with little worship and many petitions. There following are three things that we can glean from the Magi who visited Jesus.
1. When they found Him, they were HUMBLE. They bowed in worship. They put their own status aside to honor His.

Ever get your finger caught in a mouse trap? You thought you knew how it worked. You thought you knew how to set it. You thought you were doing it right...... Then...ooouuuccchhhh!!!!.. We can do everything right and still get caught in the trap. Accidents happen. Can we blame the trap for doing what it is designed to do?

I can't seem to get away from something that I posted a while back. "Our perseverance testifies of the power of the Treasure within us. When others see our troubles overshadowed by the light of His strength shining through us, they are in fact receiving the Good News of Christ."
While I used II Corinthians 4:8-10 as a text for that post, it is the later portion of the chapter that speaks of the fleeting nature of our afflictions and the eternal nature of the glory that is revealed as we endure them.
In Romans 8:18, the Apostle Paul wrote "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."
It is the revealed glory of God at work in us that draws others to Him. When they see us suffering in pain without complaint, when they see us bereaved, but putting our feelings aside to comfort someone else, and when they know we are financially strapped and yet we will give to the needy, that is when they see Christ. That is what will draw them to inquire about the source of our strength & compassion. That is when the lost will open their doors to the Gospel.
If the very thought that our malady is temporary is enough to give us a measure of hope; how much more should we be comforted knowing that the Holy Spirit is making intercessions for us.
"So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.
22 “And now I am bound by the Spirit[a] to go to Jerusalem. I don’t know what awaits me, 23 except that the Holy Spirit tells me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead. 24 But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
25 “And now I know that none of you to whom I have preached the Kingdom will ever see me again." Acts 20:19 -25 NLT
